Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving doesn't have to worry about Mitch Marner for much longer, but he does have a lot on his plate right now.
In order to get past the Marner era in Toronto, the Leafs need to actually deliver something tangible to the fans. That means signing big contracts and giving worthy guys extensions.
One contract that Maple Leafs fans are concerned about is the extension for forward
Matthew Knies, who is about to become a restricted free agent.
What is Brad Treliving's next move?
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, general manager Brad Treliving has made Knies his top priority, and we could hear about a new contract very soon.
On OverDrive, Darren Dreger said he expects Matthew Knies' contract extension to be one of the first things addressed by Brad Treliving this offseason.
Overall, this is not going to be an easy offseason for Treliving and the Leafs. There is a lot to get done, and a lot of holes on the roster to figure out.
Fans of the Maple Leafs are certainly in for a wild ride, and there is no telling whether or not this team can overcome whatever it is that is going to be in their way come July 1st.
Losing Mitch Marner is a tough pill to swallow, but if they get through that, then perhaps they can still win the Atlantic Division again next season.
