West Coast Team Reportedly Preparing Big Offer for John Tavares

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is negotiating a new deal with the team; however, we could very well see another team step up in free agency.
John Tavares is fresh off a season in which he had 38 goals and 36 assists. At 34 years old, this was an impressive showcase, and unsurprisingly, the Leafs would like to bring him back.
Of course, in order to do that, it is going to cost the team greatly. While some thought Tavares might sign for less than $5 million per season, that does not seem likely anymore.
Instead, the Maple Leafs are going to have to pay top dollar for their second-line center, who might have to switch positions next season.
Who else wants to sign John Tavares?
On the latest episode of '32 Thoughts' with
Elliotte Friedman, the insider made a very interesting point about the Anaheim Ducks, who want to take a run at
Mitch Marner.
As Friedman explains, if Tavares is still available come July 1st, then the Ducks might just make a run at him as well.
I think we're still expecting them to take a run at Marner. I've actually wondered if Toronto and Tavares don't work this out and there's still time here, if Anaheim would be a team that would take a shot at Tavares too
Meanwhile, Tavares still has a lot to give, and he has the experience necessary to make improvements to the Ducks' young roster.
However, you have to hand it to the Ducks for being an aggressive team when so many other franchises are completely asleep at the wheel.
