It has been a foregone conclusion that
Mitch Marner is going to sign elsewhere once free agency begins on July 1st.
Now, Elliotte Friedman is saying that the chances of this happening are starting to get a whole lot better. As he reported moments ago, both teams are actively working on a deal.
Something to keep an eye: on-and-off this week, Toronto and Vegas have been discussing the possibility of a sign-and-trade involving Mitch Marner
Likelihood of it happening: hard to say. But talks have occurred and continue to do so.
Friedman also revealed that, should this deal get done, the Leafs will also be getting center
Nicolas Roy, who would be the perfect player for the team's bottom six.
I believe Nic Roy will be going to Toronto if this gets done
This would be a huge move for the Leafs, who would be protected from losing Mitch Marner for absolutely nothing. Of course, Marner has to be on board with it.
He is a depth guy, and someone that could certainly make the Leafs a whole lot better right away. It is a trade that would solve their bottom-six problems.
Of course, this is not a done deal. There is a lot that has to be figured out. However, it could get done soon, and that is an exciting prospect.
