Over the past couple of days, there have been rumors that the Toronto Maple Leafs would like to trade for Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson.
One of the best offensive defensemen of the last decade is easily Erik Karlsson. Overall, he's still got a scoring touch, even at 35 years old.
However, he is stuck on the Pittsburgh Penguins, a struggling team that hasn't been able to make the playoffs in a couple of seasons.
General Manager Kyle Dubas is interested in a potential rebuild, and that means Karlsson and his $10 million cap hit are currently on the trading block.

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving needs to get creative, and it has led to reports that the team might want to bring in Karlsson, especially if they can ship out Morgan Rielly.
On the latest episode of 'Leafs Morning Take,' David Pagnotta poured some cold water on that theory, noting he has not heard much regarding Karlsson.

Furthermore, it does not seem as though Morgan Rielly wants to waive his no-move clause. At the end of the day, he would prefer to stay in Toronto.
This offseason has been an interesting one for the Leafs. On Thursday night, they traded Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks for a young defenseman in Henry Thrun.
Treliving is making moves, and he is also giving the team a lot more salary cap to work with.
Now, the team can be a bit more flexible as it seeks to trade players like David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok.
