Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Josh Leivo tore it up in the KHL last season, although despite his scoring record, Ufa Salavat Yulayev has let him go.
Ufa Salavat Yulayev was clearly excited to have him, and there is no denying that Leivo was excited to get back on the ice with the team this season.
Unfortunately, the forward will have to find somewhere else to play due to some pretty shocking news that dropped earlier today.
Josh Leivo let go by Ufa Salavat Yulayev
Due to a Visa issue, Salavat Yulayev has opted to terminate Levio's contract, in what many around the league believe to be a stunning and poorly thought-out move.
In fact, Traktor Chelyabinsk is already set to sign Leivo to a contract, which means he will have a new home for next season.
The KHL's early 2025-26 drama is almost exclusively former AHL player-involved.
Josh Leivo's contract gets terminated with Ufa & he's expected to sign with Traktor, who traded Mike Vecchione - who they recently signed late last month - to Barys Astana.
Leivo played for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks during his NHL career. Although when opportunities in North America dried up, he went to Russia.
His 80-point season from last year made him one of the best players in the entire league, and it is sad for him to go through this situation.
However, Traktor now gets a star, and they will certainly be excited to flaunt their new player on the ice this season.
As for Leivo, it is unknown whether or not he will be able to match his production from last season.
