Ex-NHL Assistant General Manager Steve Werier just revealed why the Toronto Maple Leafs will get a sign-and-trade done with Mitch Marner and the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Las Vegas Golden Knights have reportedly been working on a sign-and-trade that would send Mitch Marner out West.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs would receive center Nicolas Roy, and they may even receive defenseman Nicolas Hague. However, there is no telling whether or not the deal will get done.
Interestingly enough, Elliotte Friedman reported today that the Leafs are using their leverage right now, because there are fears that the Golden Knights are allegedly guilty of tampering in order to sign Marner before other teams could get to him.

An extra 24/48 hours of cap and roster certainty lets VGK move at full speed on 7/1 on other deals, prevents post-trade extortion on the cap-clearing moves already taken care of in this trade, and eliminates the risk of other Marner suitors maneuvering & emerging
Benchmarking:
