Elliotte Friedman Claims Knights Are Scared of Mitch Marner Tampering Investigation

Elliotte Friedman was on '32 Thoughts' where he made a bombshell comment about Mitch Marner, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs are headed towards a divorce, and this has led to some interesting reports over the past few weeks.
However, there was nothing bigger than yesterday, when Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Maple Leafs and Las Vegas Golden Knights were working on a sign-and-trade.
The Leafs could get Nicolas Roy and Nicolas Hague in return, which would be a massive move for the Leafs, and the fans in Toronto would certainly love to see it happen.
Mitch Marner may get traded out of fear of tampering investigation
However, during today's episode of '32 Thoughts,' Elliotte Friedman made a bombshell statement about why he thinks the Golden Knights are going along with a trade.
While he refused to accuse the Golden Knights of anything, he believes the Maple Leafs are thinking of pursuing a tampering charge against the Knights.
The Knights would prefer this doesn't happen, and as a result, the Leafs are in a position of leverage. Both sides would prefer this gets resolved gracefully, and the best way to do that is through a sign-and-trade. If the Leafs get good players, they'll forget this ever happened.
There is another reason that I think people are wondering about this, and people aren't going to be happy with this. Certain people, but I'm going to say it anyway. I'm not passing any judgment here on guilty or not guilty of tampering. [...] There's been some talk that if Marner goes to Vegas, the Leafs will go after Vegas for tampering.
Again, I have no proof that Vegas is guilty of anything. But it's a time around the league where teams are extremely sensitive about it, and as a couple of GMs told me on Saturday, they think the NHL is itching to try and make an example out of someone.
If they make a deal with Toronto and send a good player to Toronto, I'm betting that any chance the Leafs file for tampering goes away.

For now, this is all alleged, and there is no proof that this is why both teams are negotiating. Instead, it is more of a theory, as well as a rumbling around the league.
Either way, the Leafs just want to get a return for Marner, and it is looking increasingly like that this will become a reality.
Only time will tell whether or not Roy, Hague, and a draft pick are really part of the package.
