Throughout the years, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had their fair share of backup goalies, and recently, fans crowned the greatest in franchise history.
Ever since Felix Potvin and Curtis Joseph, the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't always been blessed with their goaltenders.
For the first time in a long time, the Maple Leafs have two goaltenders who could realistically be starters on a playoff team. For many, it is a great feeling, and has others feeling nostalgic.
In fact, The Leafs Nation recently asked fans to tap into their nostalgia, and vote on their favorite Leafs backup goalie of all time.
The answer was actually a bit surprising, as fans came through with Curis McElhinney, who played with the franchise between 2017 and 2018.
Curtis McElhinney beloved by Toronto Maple Leafs fans
McElhinney played a grand total of 32 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs; however, his second season with the team was actually quite sensational.
He had a goals-against average of 2.14, a save percentage of .934, three shutouts, and a record of 11-5-1.
These are not easy statistics to lay down, but he was able to make it happen, which is pretty dang impressive if you ask us.
While McElhinney retired after the 2020-21 season, he will forever be remembered as one of those backup goalies who were always there for his teams.
He never missed a his opportunity to play, and teams could always count on him to be solid in relief for their starters.
