Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is going to become a free agent on July 1st, and there is a team out there willing to pay him over $100 million.
Numerous teams are looking to sign the superstar winger, and some are willing to spend a lot of money to get him. However, some of the numbers thrown around are absolutely absurd.
Who is offering Mitch Marner $100 Million?
However, according to David Pagnota of The Fourth Period, there is at least one team prepared to offer Marner more than $100 million.
The Carolina Hurricanes are going all in on Marner. For seven years at $14 million, the forward would make a total of $98 million. On the flip side of that, a deal worth more than $14 million per season would put him above that $100 million mark.
When/if Mitch Marner hits the open market July 1, the expectation is the Carolina Hurricanes are going to take a massive swing to try and sign him. Sources say we shouldn't be surprised if they go above $14M on an AAV over a 7-year term. UFA market opens in 18 days.
Overall, the Hurricanes will be just one of the many teams that want to sign Marner once July 1st hits. Whether or not Marner wants to go there remains to be seen.
He has already declined a trade to the Hurricanes, so signing with them would be the ultimate betrayal of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Fans are going to be very curious about the forward's next move, and we cannot wait to see what he decides. It will be the biggest story of the summer.
Only time will tell whether or not the Hurricanes win the sweepstakes. We just know the Los Angeles Kings, Las Vegas Golden Knights, and Florida Panthers will all be looking to play spoiler.
