Insider Reveals a Mitch Marner Sign-and-Trade is Still a Real Possibility

With Mitch Marner likely to be leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs, it should come as no surprise that the team is angling for a sign-and-trade before free agency.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team with a lot to lose this summer. Mitch Marner is likely on his way out, and they could lose John Tavares as well.
However, if they can play their cards right, they might just end up with some solid assets as opposed to losing all of their top guys for nothing.
Marner is the one player that everyone is worried about right now, although with the Vegas Golden Knights making trades to free cap space for Marner, there might just be an opportunity here.
Mitch Marner to the Las Vegas Golden Knights?
Marner was reportedly spotted looking at homes in Las Vegas this past weekend, which tells us that's where he wants to go. Consequently, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet is theorizing that a sign-and-trade could be worked out.
If Mitch and the Golden Knights are keen on an eight-year deal, the forward must sign with the Leafs first, then get traded. With the Leafs needing a second-line center, Kypreos believes William Karlsson might just be the right target.
While the focus around Marner has to do with his free agent status, we can't rule out the potential for a sign and trade here. For example, going back to Vegas and Karlsson, obtaining a No. 2 centre is as high a priority for Toronto as well as a top winger replacement for Marner this summer.
This is all going to be very interesting, and we cannot wait for July 1st, as that will tell us exactly what is going on, and who is going where.

Hopefully, this doesn't become a true nightmare for all of the Maple Leafs fans out there, and Mitch Marner leaves on relatively good terms.
