Insider Reveals the Offer Sheet Salary Needed for the Leafs to Let Matthew Knies Walk

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies could be the subject of some offer sheets this summer, and it would take a huge salary to get the Leafs to budge.
Matthew Knies is one of the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the fans want to see him around for a very long time.
However, he is going to become a restricted free agent as of July 1st. If the Leafs do not sign him before then, he could be subjected to an offer sheet from a rival team.
If Knies signs that offer sheet, the Leafs will have to match. Should they decide not to, the winger walks away, and the Leafs receive draft compensation.
Matthew Knies Offer Sheet status
Considering just how good Knies is, and how good he is going to be, it is going to take a ridiculous offer sheet for the Leafs to buckle.
According to Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff, a rival team would have to offer Knies $11 million per season for the Leafs to get nervous. At $11 million per season, Seravalli believes the Leafs would refuse to match and would let him walk.
I understand what Servalli is saying, offer-sheeting Knies 11x7 is what it would take to even get the Leafs to think about saying no, he may not be worth 11x7 right now, but that's what you need to do to give yourself some hope of getting him.
At this stage, it seems as though Knies is worth closer to $8 million. However, the Leafs love him so much that even at $10 million, they would probably bite the bullet and match.
This is why the Leafs need to sign an extension as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the sharks will be looking to bite, and it will not be pretty.
We just hope that Knies can stick around for the long haul. He's exciting, and the Leafs need him right now.
Whether or not these contract negotiations go according to plan, remains to be seen.
