Former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jani Hakanpaa dealt with numerous injuries last season, and he only got to play two games with the team.
Jani Hakanpaa was easily one of the saddest cases on the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, as he was only able to play two games all year.
Overall, this was due to a knee issue that had many fans wondering if he would ever play in the NHL again. For some, Hakanpaa was someone the Leafs should have stayed away from.
As the season went on, Hakanpaa's updates became more and more distressing, especially as there was very little good news to go around.

Recently, however, the defenseman spoke to a Finnish publication, where he made a surprising revelation about his injury.
As it turns out, during the Leafs playoff run, Hakanpaa was cleared to play. But, at the time, the stakes were high for the Leafs, and they opted not to use him.
The doctors cleared me to play in the playoffs. My leg was in good condition and I was able to train well. That was a really positive sign for the future.
Now, Hakanpaa is a free agent, and there is no telling where he is going to go next. He has yet to sign a deal for the upcoming season.
Clearly, teams are a bit hesitant about putting pen to paper, considering he hasn't been able to play a game since the Fall of last year.
He is the kind of defenseman that can block shots and help you win games, so we're sure someone will sign him eventually.
For now, however, he will have to continue to dig for opportunities, which is most certainly unfortunate.
