With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to add some offensive talent to the roster, it appears as though New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau is an option.
With the exit of Mitch Marner, the Toronto Maple Leafs are under tremendous pressure to come through with some replacements for the forward.
While the Leafs have added to the roster, particularly on offense, there have been some detractors claiming that the team is not good enough.
Even general manager Brad Treliving seems to agree. He is currently looking for a top-six forward, and numerous options have presented themselves.
Is Jean-Gabriel Pageau an option for the Toronto Maple Leafs?
New York Islanders forward
Jean-Gabriel Pageau is going into the final year of his deal worth $5 million per season, which means he is the perfect trade candidate.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche is open to trading Pageau, but at an exorbitant price.
Teams have been calling, were calling, closer to the draft; Darche's message has been 'sure you wanna blow me out of the water, I'll do it now, otherwise I'll hold on to him'.
It has been said before, but the Toronto Maple Leafs do not have a ton of assets right now, which makes a trade for Pageau incredibly unlikely.
If the price were a bit cheaper, then sure, we could certainly imagine both sides coming to an agreement on something.
For now, the Leafs will just have to keep digging and find some other options. It's not going to be easy, but Treliving is up to the challenge.
If he can make something happen here, the fans are goint to be very impressed with his resourcefulness.
