John Tavares' Ridiculous Contract Demands Are Being Roasted in Toronto

John Tavares had himself an exceptional season in Toronto as he was able to score 38 goals while adding an extra 36 assists for 74 points. It was a sensational campaign that now comes with an elevated price tag.

The forward is negotiating a new contract with the Maple Leafs, and there are reports that he is demanding a high salary, as well as a lengthy term.

For instance, the latest report out of Toronto suggests Tavares could get a six-year contract worth over $5 million per season. This feels a bit absurd, especially since the former captain will be 39-40 when the contract is over.

As it turns out, analysts and radio hosts throughout Toronto believe these are absolutely absurd demands, and that the Maple Leafs have an obligation to shut them down immediately.

For instance, on 'The Real Kyper & Bourne,' Sam McKee was quick to note that paying $5 million per season for Tavares would be a betrayal of Brad Treliving's "DNA" comments.

If the Leafs do not re-sign John Tavares, there will be teams looking to pounce, and as they should. After all, the forward can still give you some pretty good seasons.

That said, based on everything we have heard, it does feel like the Leafs and Tavares would like to reunite with one another.

Unfortunately, Tavares has not been the playoff performer fans were hoping he would be, but that doesn't mean he can't come back. After all, another 30-goal season would make fans happy.

Hopefully, the Leafs are able to finalize a reasonable deal soon, and get something done for Matthew Knies, as well.
