Trade Talks Between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames Take a Stunning Turn

Rasmus Andersson is a defenseman who had a truly horrendous +/- last season, although it wasn't necessarily his fault, given the Calgary Flames' struggles.

The 28-year-old is still an extremely solid defenseman, and he knows how to generate some offense for his team. He had 11 goals and 20 assists last season, for 31 points. Just a few seasons ago, he had a career high with 50 points.

He will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026, and this has the Flames contemplating whether or not they want to trade him. In fact, the Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly shown interest and have tried to make a deal.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the Leafs are going to get what they want anytime soon. According to a new report from Chris Johnston, Andersson is not going anywhere.

The Flames still don't know what they want to do with Andersson. But for now, they would rather keep him and wait for next season's trade deadline.

Ultimately, the Leafs will have to look elsewhere for now if they are serious about adding some offense to their blueline.

Although this is not going to be an easy task, general manager Brad Treliving has absolutely no choice but to try. Hopefully, things go the Leafs' way.

After all, there hasn't been a lot of good news in Leaf-land as of late, especially with Mitch Marner likely to be on his way out for good.

The Toronto Maple Leafs could benefit from some good news, but it could take a very long time before any of that good news materializes. Unless, of course, Matthew Knies and John Tavares get their contract extensions.
