Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube helped the team win the Atlantic Division, but that may not have been enough to keep him off the hot seat.
The team even pushed the eventual Stanley Cup champs to seven games in the second round. Sure, the Leafs lost, but they came very close.
Craig Berube has done a great job with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Now, Adam Proteau of The Hockey News is arguing that Craig Berube could be on the hot seat, despite the recent success.
Proteau argues that most of the team's additions this offseason were based on Berube's style of play. Having said that, if the Leafs regress, then general manager Brad Treliving may just make a change.
The Leafs now have a deep group of forwards that play a game Berube prefers. In 2025-26, time will tell whether the Leafs were right to give the coach a greater say in matters, including their most recent roster restructuring.
Oh, and there's also the matter of winning the Atlantic Division again and pushing past the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
At the end of the season, it was revealed that Berube would have a large role with the Maple Leafs this season. Simply put, he will be able to weigh in on roster decisions.
With that in mind, it is hard to imagine him being placed on the hot seat so soon, but if the team truly regresses, maybe Proteau has a point.
If one thing is for certain, it is that the Leafs need to score more goals this season, otherwise, fans might start to get nervous.
