Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is one of the best players on the team right now, and a lot of his success can be traced back to head coach Craig Berube.
Matthew Knies had an amazing season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024-25, and with 29 goals in his sophomore season, he is on the precipice of being a 30-goal guy.
Having said that, there is no denying that the guidance of head coach Craig Berube has aided Knies. The Leafs' bench boss loves power forwards and Knies embodies that role beautifully.
Matthew Knies speaks on Craig Berube
Recently, the forward spoke to the Daily Faceoff, where he got asked about Berube and his true thoughts on the coach.
I think he likes those North south players that are big strong and fast. I feel like I fit the mold of the exact player he's looking for. He put a lot of trust in me putting me with Auston and Mitch almost the whole year. He's been huge teaching me that way of the game and straining the north south game and not to make the cute plays and always look to pass to those guys and be selfish to make the right play. I think he's a great coach and he's part of the reason that we're going to go farther and give ourselves a chance to win it.
Going into next season, Matthew Knies will have to raise his game with the absence of
Mitch Marner, and fans believe he can do it.
Of course, there are no guarantees that he will have a big season. But his work ethic speaks for itself, and we look forward to his next moves.
At the end of the day, the Maple Leafs have a solid roster right now, and another top-six guy would put them over the edge.
Whether or not Knies can increase his point totals is something that we will have to watch out for.
