Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is one of the best goal-scorers on the team, but going into next season, he is hoping to achieve something special.
With
Mitch Marner gone, Knies will be that much more important to the Leafs this season, and there is no doubt that he is eager to up his game.
Matthew Knies wants to make the U.S. Olympic Team
While speaking to the Daily Faceoff, Knies actually revealed that his goals for next season go beyond just playing well for the Maple Leafs.
Instead, Knies wants to be so good that he gets consideration for the U.S. Olympic Team. NHL players are going back to the Olympics, and he wants to be a major part of that.
Obviously it would be a huge honour to make that team and to get to represent them again on that stage, that'd be pretty surreal.
I have to earn the opportunity to make that roster and I know it's not gonna be easy, there's a lot of names that deserve to be there. It's gonna be challenging, but I think if I have a strong start to the season, I can show what I can do and hopefully earn my way onto that team.
Following the 4 Nations Face-Off, Knies became inspired to play for his country, and you have to appreciate that.
Although Canadian hockey fans would be rooting against him, Leafs fans would love to see him make the Olympic team and play alongside
Auston Matthews.
He is a player who is going to have an amazing career in the NHL, and even if he doesn't make the Olympics this year, he will have more opportunities in the future.
Only time will tell whether or not Knies is able to reach his ultimate goal or not.
