Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is in the midst of trying to secure a new contract and as it turns out, he wants a mega deal that will cost a pretty penny.
Mitch Marner is up for a contract extension and as many of you may know already, the negotiations have not been going particularly well.
The Toronto Maple Leafs would love to keep the superstar forward but it is becoming clearer and clearer that he would like to test free agency.
With this knowledge in mind, the Leafs even asked Marner to waive his no-trade clause for a potential deal with the Carolina Hurricanes for Mikko Rantanen. In the end, he refused.

Recent comments by Marner have suggested that things with Toronto have actually soured quite a bit and now, fans cannot help but feel as though he is definitely on his way out.
A new report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggests that while the forward will hit free agency, he still very much wants to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
As for the salary demand, it seems like an AAV of $13 million could be enough to keep Mitch Marner in a blue and white jersey.
The expectation remains that Mitch Marner will hit free agency this summer. He loves Toronto and isn't closing the door on staying, but he's seeking a competitive contract starting at $104 million over eight years.
This would be a fair deal for Marner especially when you consider his production this season.
He is having a career year with 79 points in 62 games and if he continues down this pace, he could eclipse the 100-point mark for the first time in his career.
It would be a massive milestone for the superstar forward, and it would definitely lead him to a large contract.
However, for the Maple Leafs, the playoffs remain the true litmus test for Mitch Marner and his potential value.
