Toronto Maple Leafs superstar winger Mitch Marner is going to become a free agent on July 1st, and it seems like he and Darren Ferris have a bizarre plan.
The largest term the winger can get is seven years, and as far as the money is concerned, it seems like anything between $12-$14 million per season is realistic.
According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Marner is considering taking just a two-year deal so that he can make more money when the salary cap jumps over $113 million in 2027.
It is a greedy play, but it might just work out for him if he continues to produce over 100 points per season.
Mitch Marner is considering a potential two-year deal worth around $12-13 million per season, setting himself up to hit the market again when the cap jumps to $113 million or more.
The risk is injury, but at 28, he'd be 30 when hitting UFA status again. The Golden Knights, Kings, and Stars are believed to be high on his list-though Dallas is a long shot given their financial commitment to Mikko Rantanen.
