Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will have the world at his fingertips on July 1st, but Elliotte Friedman suggests things could get very complicated.

Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs are in the midst of a divorce, and there is no denying that the fans in Toronto just want this to be over with, once and for all.
On July 1st, the forward is expected to hold various meetings with prospective teams. However, insiders have suggested that Marner wants to take his time before making a decision.
That means he might wait until the middle of July before officially signing a new contract. As you can imagine, this poses a real problem to some teams.

Elliotte Friedman on Mitch Marner

On '32 Thoughts,' Elliotte Friedman confirmed that some teams are going to hit Mitch Marner with an ultimatum come July 1st.
He explained that some teams simply can't afford to wait for Marner to make a choice. As a result, they put a time limit on their offer.
What happens if a team Marner really likes says 'here's our offer on July 1st, and it's on the table until tomorrow, because we can't afford to wait for you to go through a process like this. We have to know, because the answer is you're not coming, we have to race to plan B'. So, that might be the plan, but a few teams said to me that someone is gonna go in there and say 'we're not doing this, here's our offer, you've got X (and it's going to be quick) to take it or leave it'. They guarantee someone is going to go in there and force Marner to make a decision, because teams can't afford to wait.

Given how obnoxious Marner's plan is, this makes a lot of sense, and fans should absolutely welcome these tactics from rival teams.
There are very few teams that can afford to wait come July 1st, and this might put Marner in a tight situation where he only has a few options.
Darren Ferris and Paul Marner have been criticized in the past for their tactics, and that is happening again ahead of free agency.
Whatever the case may be, Marner and the Maple Leafs appear to be on the outs and no amount of posturing will change that.
