Nazem Kadri to the Maple Leafs rumors take a significant hit

Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri has been embroiled in rumors involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and fans have been curious if anything would come of it.
Nazem Kadri was infamously ousted from the Maple Leafs under dubious circumstances as he was initially promised that the team would keep him long-term.
Since that time, Kadri has continued to impress wherever he's gone whether that be the Colorado Avalanche or the Calgary Flames.
Now, Kadri is with the Flames and there have been all sorts of rumblings that he could someday end up back with the Maple Leafs.
However, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, that is a pipe dream right now.
With the Flames playing well, it would appear as though they have no interest in trading one of their top players.
That was then. Now, they're in the thick of things in the Pacific Division. I don't know how readily available Naz would be right now.
Nazem Kadri to the Maple Leafs...Not so fast
Pagnotta also noted that there is something else that hampers the ability to trade Kadri anywhere.
Sure, his $7 million per year is a whole lot, however, it is the length left on his deal that is going to make teams wince.
The $7 million cap hit isn't what scares me, it's the term that's left on it.
Kadri coming back to the Maple Leafs was always going to be a pipe dream, so at this point, fans should just leave it be.
However, you can't help but fantasize about what could be if Kadri did ever return to Toronto.
