Jersey retirements are a privilege, and there is one Toronto Maple Leafs player who flies under the radar when it comes to those who would be deserving of one.
There are two phenomenal players who wore the number 16 while playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Of course, we mean Mitch Marner and Darcy Tucker.
As it stands, Marner is public enemy number one in Toronto due to the fact that he left the franchise for the allure of the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Meanwhile, Tucker is still beloved to this day, and fans always yearn for the days of having a forward who could hit, fight, and score goals.
Darcy Tucker was incredible for the Toronto Maple Leafs
Recently, a video of Darcy Tucker went viral, and it showcased all of the good that he was able to accomplish as a member of the Leafs.
Upon watching this video, many fans realized that Tucker deserves to have his jersey retired. Of course, this may cause a real rift with the fanbase since Marner has the same jersey number.
Retiring Tucker's number might upset Marner, but given how he left the team, he doesn't really have much of a say in the matter.
Realistically, we highly doubt that Tucker is going to get his jersey retired. But it is definitely one of those things that is fun to think about.
Tucker played a total of 947 NHL games and had 476 points. He had over 200 goals and was beloved everywhere he went.
Despite playing for the Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Colorado Avalanche, his best years were easily with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ultimately, the Toronto Maple Leafs are grateful to have had Tucker on the team, and we hope he is doing well in retirement.
