Social media is a great place for NHL teams to connect with hockey fans; however, the Toronto Maple Leafs are so disliked that this can sometimes be difficult.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that is hated by many in the hockey world, and it's simply because they are a popular team in Toronto.
In many ways, the Leafs are the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL. Immensely popular, but also incredibly hated. They also haven't won in a while, which doesn't help.
With all of this in mind, it shouldn't be surprising that the Leafs get trolled a whole lot on social media, for a whole plethora of reasons.
Toronto Maple Leafs roasted on social media
Recently, the Leafs took to X, where they asked fans to create a new profile header for them. Of course, they were relying on the creativity of the fanbase.
Instead, they were met with a ton of troll responses that were probably upsetting to witness if you are the admin of the page.
Below, you can see the variety of the tweets, which, in a vacuum, were pretty funny, all things considered.
Although the image of John Tavares being concussed was certainly in poor taste, we do not condone it whatsoever.
This season, the Maple Leafs are going to have to deal with a plethora of trolls, and there is no telling how things are going to play out.
For instance, without players like Mitch Marner, the Leafs are expected to regress, and this could very well lead to a ton of trolling on social media.
Either way, Leafs fans will have to put on a united front in order to make sure they don't get rage baited all season long.
