Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli is trying to shake off a disappointing 2024-25 season, although this has proven easier said than done.

Matias Maccelli was acquired for exceptional value during the summer, as he only managed 18 points with the Utah Mammoth last season.
The season before that, he had over 50 points. This led to questions about how a player can have such a bad drop-off.
It was expected that with the Leafs, Maccelli would be much better, and that he would be able to shake off some of those 2024-25 scaries.

Matias Maccelli facing early Maple Leafs jitters

To start the season, things were promising for Maccelli as he was on the first line with guys like Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
He got an assist early on, but since then, he has gone pointless. He is playing on the second line with William Nylander and John Tavares, and while those two light the lamp, Maccelli can't get on the board.
Although the forward has shown quite a bit of skill so far, it is not resulting in points on the board, and that is going to be a concern going forward.
Maccelli is going to settle into the middle-six, but the hope is that he doesn't have another 18-point season, something he is currently on pace for.
Of course, his fortunes can change. On the second line, it is only a matter of time before he starts putting points on the board. But until then, we need to see it to believe it.
It is still early in the season, and some patience is required. But after last night's loss to the Seattle Kraken, some fans are running out of patience.
Only time will tell whether or not Maccelli can get it together, or if he will need to be demoted again, this time to the third line.
