Matthew Knies has been a revelation for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season and there is no doubt that the fans absolutely adore him.
While teams can't outright sign the young forward, they can give him an offer sheet that the Leafs would then have to match.
If they didn't match the offer sheet, they would receive significant compensation in the form of draft picks.
Will Matthew Knies sign an offer sheet
Matthew Knies would fall under the $7-$9 million bracket thanks to his production and predictions from various different analysts.
Should the Leafs let him walk for that price, the team would receive a first-round pick, a second-round pick, and a third-round pick as well. One has to wonder if the Leafs would ever allow such a thing to happen.
For all intents and purposes, it seems as though the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to bring Knies back for next season, and they will do anything to do that.
Whatever the case may be, Knies is a superbly talented young player and the Leafs should absolutely be focused on retaining his services.
It also helps that he has proven to be a fantastic playoff performer who delivers in big moments.
