Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson could very well be on the fast track to being traded, and there are various proposals going around that are fairly weak.
By now, it feels like an inevitability that Nick Robertson is going to be traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Although some analysts aren't so sure, the forward's cap hit is just too much to bear.
Furthermore, there are players the Leafs can target right now, and Robertson would be the perfect bargaining chip as he is a young player who can jump on a roster and play immediately.
Nick Robertson to the Pittsburgh Penguins?
Recently, Nestor Quixan of Heavy.com floated a trade proposal involving Nick Robertson, and it even includes
David Kampf.
These players would be going to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and no, they wouldn't be traded for
Rickard Rakell or
Bryan Rust. Instead, it would be a complete cap dump.
Maple Leafs get:
2026 third-round pick
2027 third-round pick
Penguins get:
Nick Robertson, F
David Kampf, F
2027 second-round pick
A pair of third-round picks for Robertson and Kampf feels like a low-ball, but at this point, the Leafs just need to move on from these salaries, once and for all.
Once they do that, they will have the freedom to go out and acquire more players, either by trade or by signing.
Whatever the case may be, there is still a lot of left work to do this offseason, and Leafs fans are hoping for some big swings.
