Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Vyacheslav Peksa is looking to make a name for himself this season, and the Toronto Marlies are allowing him to make it happen.
Vyacheslav Peksa is a goaltender that the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted all the way back in 2021, and since that time, he has been working through the ECHL system.
He spent two games with the Toronto Marlies last season, but the vast majority of his time was spent with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
This season, it was announced that he would be making the AHL roster for the Marlies, alongside goalies like
Dennis Hildeby,
Artur Akhtyamov, and Ken Appleby.
Vyacheslav Peksa to get a full season with the Toronto Marlies
However, it appears as though Peksa's role with the Toronto Marlies has become a lot more defined thanks to a recent development.
According to Leafs Nation News, Appleby was sent back down to the ECHL, which leaves Peksa in Toronto with Akhtyamov and Hildeby.
They are keeping Peksa up as an AHL 3G and sending Appleby to Cincy. Curious if that persists and how they will manage the AHL starts for Hildeby/Akhtyamov/Peksa
Going forward, Peksa is going to be able to enjoy quite a few more starts than he did last season, and this will be huge for his development.
The Maple Leafs will be looking for improvement as the season goes on, and while it might be ugly at first, the confidence will come with time.
At the end of the day, we are just excited to have such a great young group of goaltenders doing their thing for the Maple Leafs right now.
Only time will tell which ones survive to become the future of the franchise.
