Alexandar Georgiev was no good with the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche last season, and now that he is a free agent, there are very few interested teams.
If you are a fan of the San Jose Sharks or the Colorado Avalanche, then you are probably aware of how bad
Alexandar Georgiev was last season.
With both teams, his save percentage hovered around .875, which is not going to win you many hockey games. As for his goals-against average, it was 3.38 with the Avalanche and 3.88 with the Sharks.
Now, Georgiev is a free agent, and he has yet to be signed by a team in need. Interestingly enough, the Maple Leafs need a third-string goalie, and could be in the market.
Alexandar Georgiev to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
If
Anthony Stolarz and
Joseph Woll were to get injured, which, based on recent history, is likely, then someone like Georgiev could come in handy.
Not to mention, after a bad season, Georgiev could have a bounce-back campaign, especially if he gets his confidence up down in the AHL.
Of course, there are some major downsides here. At 29, Georgiev might not want to be relegated to an AHL career. If anything, he would go to the KHL.
Meanwhile, the Leafs need to develop their young goalies eventually, and bringing in Georgiev would mean less playing time for Hildeby, Akhtyamov, and Peksa.
Either way, August has been a dead month for the Maple Leafs, and fans are just hoping for some kind of move to get made sooner rather than later.
Whether or not the Maple Leafs make it happen, still remains to be seen, and fans are certainly excited to see what happens next.
