Top NHL Insider Unveils What Matthew Knies Will Make on His Next Deal with the Maple Leafs

Matthew Knies was sensational last season for the Toronto Maple Leafs. While playing on a line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, the forward notched 29 goals and 58 points.

Now, he is set to become a restricted free agent, and the Leafs have to get him a deal before teams start poking around with an offer sheet.

It has been reported that the Leafs want to sign Knies by June 30th. This would avoid the offer sheet situation. However, both sides would have to figure out whether or not the deal would be long-term or a bridge.

This could be a very contentious conversation, as a bridge deal would allow Knies to get paid more money in three years from now. But a long-term deal could allow him to make more money sooner. It's a Catch-22 for both sides.

According to Chris Johnston, if Knies chooses a bridge deal, he will make between $4-5 million over three years. However, if he goes long-term, then it will be double that for eight years.

Leafs fans will be hoping for Knies to sign a long-term contract, as bridge deals have given this franchise problems for a decade at this point.

That said, Knies is going to do what is best for him and his family. Players are typically selfish in these matters, and it would be unfair to assume Knies would be any different.

In the midst of all of this, the Leafs also have to figure out what to do with Mitch Marner and John Tavares, who are unrestricted free agents.

Needless to say, this is going to be a stressful summer for the Maple Leafs, and there is going to be a whole lot on the line.
