Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov just got a horrible injury update, and this is going to spell some good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Yesterday, we reported on Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, who went down with what appeared to be a right leg injury at practice.
Overall, this looked like a very bad injury, and there were lots of concerns about what his health status would be going forward.
In fact, on Thursday afternoon, there were all sorts of fears that Barkov was dealing with an ACL injury, which could very well be catastrophic.

On Friday, it was reported that Barkov needed surgery on his right knee. This is a terrible situation to go through, especially since it looks like his season is over.
While a return for the playoffs could be in the cards, the feeling around the Florida Panthers right now is grim, to say the very least.
Ultimately, this could have a severe effect on the team's championship hopes, which is good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs fell to the Florida Panthers in the playoffs last season, and there is no doubt that Barkov was a huge contributor to that.
Without their captain, this Panthers team will struggle to three-peat, and that opens up a huge opportunity for the Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division.
Overall, this should be a very interesting season for the Maple Leafs, and with this injury bug plaguing the Panthers, the expectation is for Toronto to take full advantage.
