With free agency right around the corner, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make some big moves, and a familiar face is going to be pursued by Brad Treliving.

Leafs general manager Brad Treliving must get creative this summer. With Mitch Marner on his way out and guys like John Tavares in limbo, it seems like some big changes are coming.
There are plenty of interesting players on the market right now, including Washington Capitals winger Andrew Mangiapane, who just wrapped up a three-year deal worth $5.8 million per season.
Last year, Mangiapane did not live up to his contract as he had 14 goals, 14 assists, and 28 points in 81 games. A stark contrast from the 35-goal, 55-point campaign during the 2021-22 season.

Having said that, the Capitals have made it clear that they are moving on. However, Treliving used to be the GM of the Calgary Flames, Mangiapane's previous team.
As a result, it should come as no surprise that David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting just how interested the Leafs are in signing the forward.
The Maple Leafs, along with a few other teams, are expected to pursue F Andrew Mangiapane once he hits the open market.

The Bolton, Ontario native had 14 goals and 14 assists in 81 GP last season. Of course, he was also a member of the Flames in Calgary when current Leafs GM Brad Treliving was in charge.
Overall, the forward is from the Toronto area, so the hometown fit is certainly one the winger will consider when negotiating new deals.
Ultimately, Treliving will have to be careful here. Mangiapane is 29 years old, but his point production is deteriorating steadily. That said, he can't sign him for $5.8 million per season.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs end up with Mangiapane or he goes elsewhere.
But that is the beauty of free agency, you never know what is actually going to happen.
