Free agent forward Brad Marchand is reportedly interested in joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the franchise is set to make an offer he cannot refuse.
Brad Marchand is going to become a free agent on July 1st, and there will be no shortage of teams trying to acquire him.
Brad Marchand and the Toronto Maple Leafs
It has been reported that Marchand wants a four-year contract, and he also hopes to make over $8 million per season. It is a rich contract, and not every team will want to do that.
However, according to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, the Leafs are the only team that is willing to give the forward that fourth year.
The Maple Leafs "might be the only team willing to give Brad Marchand 4 years" "I don't see another team matching" what the Leafs can offer
Kypreos has been steadfast in his assertions that Marchand is going to sign with the Maple Leafs. He thinks it is almost a done deal.
If the Leafs did give him a four-year contract worth $8 million per season, he would effectively be paid until the age of 41, which is certainly risky.
That said, Marchand is a sensation in the postseason, and the Maple Leafs are going to want a guy like that when the games become important.
For now, however, fans will just have to be patient for July 1st when the sweepstakes truly begin.
