Toronto Maple Leafs Could Be Forced to Trade Newly-Acquired Defenseman

Furthermore, with
Morgan Rielly refusing to waive his no-trade clause, the former
Boston Bruins defenseman is now being seen as a potential trade chip.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Brandon Carlo?
This was confirmed by James Mirtle of The Athletic, who spoke with JD Bunkis today over on
Sportsnet 590 The Fan.
The Maple Leafs reporter noted that the Leafs do not have any assets to play with if they really want to make a big swing for the fences. Teams won't trade with them because they don't have any draft picks.
However, there is a world in which they flip Brandon Carlo for some draft capital, which can then be flipped into a forward that would help them out quite a bit next season.
A name I could see being moved due to the lack of assets the team has is Brandon Carlo; I know they just got him but he's fairly affordable and would help a lot of teams plus he has no protection, so it makes a deal a bit easier.
The team is trying to get itself a second-line center, and they are also trying to improve the bottom six, which was pretty pitiful last season, all things considered.
Of course, this is easier said than done. Ideally, Morgan Rielly would waive his no-move clause. Unfortunately, it does not seem like that is possible right now.
We do not envy the position general manager Brad Treliving is in right now. He is in the trenches with his staff, and they must find unique ways to improve this roster before they get lapped by the field.
