The Toronto Maple Leafs need an offensive right-handed defenseman, and there is a player waiting in the wings with the Toronto Marlies who fits the bill.
There aren't many puck-moving defenseman on the Toronto Maple Leafs right now. There is Morgan Rielly, but that is about it.
Whenver a Maple Leafs defenseman has the puck on their stick, it feels like it is going to result in a turnover. We saw it tonight in a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
However, there is one defenseman on the Toronto Marlies right now who should absolutely get a chance with the Leafs.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs bring up William Villeneuve?
That defenseman is William Villeneuve. His production in the AHL has been sensational, and the fan sentiment is very high at this point.
In fact, some believe he should be replacing guys like Philippe Myers and Simon Benoit, who have not been very good so far this season.

Dakota Mermis has also been up with the Leafs, and it feels like Villeneuve would be a much better option for the team right about now.
At the end of the day, the Maple Leafs need to get themselves back in shape. They are out of sorts, and need to start getting some wins.
Of course, Dennis Hildeby in goal is not the solution, and we saw that tonight as the Leafs had themselves a terrible game.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs can get out of this rut, and take the advice of fans.
