Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Called Out After Lackluster Play Gets Him Benched

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a deep team right now and that is especially true with their forwards. Calle Jarnkrok is finding this out in the worst way possible.
Calle Jarnkrok missed the entire first two-thirds of the NHL season as he was dealing with a pretty gnarly sports hernia injury.
A lot of that success came in his first few games but as of late, his production simply has not been good enough.
Calle Jarnkrok struggles with the Toronto Maple Leafs
In fact, on Thursday against the New York Rangers, Jarnkrok was benched in favor of
David Kampf.
Perhaps the Twitter account Willystan Riellander was a reason for the decision (we're joking), but the advanced stats provided by them really does paint a clear picture.
Simply put, the fourth-liner has not been good enough and Craig Berube decided to do something about it.
it's still early, but jarnkrok has really struggled so far
in his 5v5 minutes leafs are controlling just 39% of the expected goals and 40% of the shot attempts; he also only has one assist
leafs need him to be impactful at $2.1M, it's not an insignificant amount of cap space
The Twitter account also notes the problematic way in which the team treated Jarnkrok and how realistically, dealing him at the deadline may have made the most sense in terms of cap hit.
it's only been six games, so he should improve as he plays more, but this was the trouble with treating jarnkrok as a deadline acquisition after not playing for so much of the season
using his cap space instead could've netted the leafs a pretty impactful winger
Only time will tell whether or not Jarnkrok gets back into the lineup before the playoffs although we imagine he will as Kampf is also a fringe player at this stage.
