Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust has been on the Toronto Maple Leafs' radar since the Summer, and many are wondering if the trade rumors are true.
Since the summer, it has become clear that the Toronto Maple Leafs need a right-winger to play on the first line with
Auston Matthews and
Matthew Knies.
Rust is perfect for the job, as he is the kind of player who can give you over 30 goals in a given season. Not to mention, he has been placed in all kinds of trade rumors as of late.
The Pittsburgh Penguins could be going through a rebuild soon, which means a fire sale would be on the horizon much sooner than you think.
Are the Pittsburgh Penguins trading Bryan Rust?
However, according to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, it would appear as though the Leafs are going to have to look elsewhere for their top-line winger.
"Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell may well be traded by the deadline"; "I have a feeling, though, that Rust will remain"
Of course, things are always changing in the NHL, and there is always the possibility that the Penguins decide to change their minds and trade Rust, anyway.
In the meantime, the Maple Leafs are going to have to use what they have. The roster is solid; they just need to start putting in a consistent effort.
After a win against the Nashville Predators, they play the New York Rangers on Thursday, and that should be a pretty big test of their metal.
