Easton Cowan made his NHL debut on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings, and while he didn't register a point, his impact on the first line was tremendous.
Cowan has certainly earned the right to remain on the first line, which is great news for the franchise. They need a speedy playmaker on the right wing, and Cowan is occupying that space beautifully.
Auston Matthews is a fan of Easton Cowan
After last night's game, the rookie received the customary post-game belt for the team's most valuable player. Considering his accomplishment, it is only right that he was bestowed this honor.
As for Auston Matthews, he had nothing but praise for the kid as he took to his Instagram story and simply said "boom" with a photo of Cowan with the belt.
It all but confirms that the captain wants to keep playing with the young forward on his line going forward, and we do not blame him at all.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Cowan's rise is a lot of fun, and you can't help but root for him all season long.
Whether or not he remains on the first line still remains to be seen. After all, that spot was promised to
Max Domi earlier in the offseason.
Once
Steven Lorentz and
Scott Laughton come back, we would imagine that Cowan finds himself back in the bottom-six, at least until he gets more experience.
Hopefully, the kid can keep it up and show the world that he belongs in the NHL for the rest of the season.
