Toronto Maple Leafs goalie injured as career continues to turn sour
Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray was playing for the Toronto Marlies today and he got injured early in a game against the Laval Rocket.
Goaltender Matt Murray's career has been in a downward spiral since winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
Overall, Murray did not have a successful tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs, however, he has remained a part of their franchise thanks to the Toronto Marlies.
As it stands, Matt Murray and
Dennis Hildeby are the two goalies with the Marlies, although there is no doubt that Hildeby is regarded as the future.
Today, the Marlies were playing against their biggest rival, the Laval Rocket and Murray was the starter for that game.
Dennis Hildeby forced to replace Matt Murray
However, disaster struck for Murray as he was injured early on in the game and Hildeby had to come in and replace him.
The Laval Rocket ended up winning the match by a score of 5-4 which certainly does not bode well for Hildeby or the rest of the team.
As for Murray, it is currently unknown what the extent of this injury is although we hope it isn't anything serious.
When it comes to Murray's NHL career, it does feel pretty unlikely that he finds his way back into the big leagues, especially with the way the Maple Leafs are structured right now.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Murray and whether or not he can get back on track.
