John Tavares and Steven Lorentz are up for new contract this summer and as it turns out, the Toronto Maple Leafs are waiting before actually making an offer.
Brad Treliving has an incredibly difficult job this summer as he has to sign a ton of free agents including John Tavares, Steven Lorentz, Matthew Knies, and Mitch Marner.
Of course, the biggest fish to fry is going to be Marner who wants a deal that could be worth upwards of $100 million with an AAV of over $13 million.
Meanwhile, guys like Knies, Tavares, and Lorentz have more than earned their keep and fans are hoping that the team is going to keep all of them.

Unfortunately for Tavares and Lorentz, it would appear as though they are not the priority right now and they will have to wait their turn.
According to Nick Kypreos, it has been revealed that neither one of these players will receive an offer until the summer as they want to figure out whether or not they will have money left over for Mitch Marner.
It 'sounds like' pending unrestricted free agents John Tavares and Steven Lorentz will have to wait until the offseason for any contract offers from the Leafs if they are to stay.

When you consider how Tavares has 65 points in 64 games and has 32 goals this season, it becomes clear that this is a bit of a slap in the face.
After all, Tavares has done a ton to earn his keep this season and he has been playing some inspired hockey down the stretch.
Meanwhile, Steven Lorentz has been the perfect fourth-liner and Craig Berube has played him in every single game this season.
The team needs to keep players like this around, and hopefully, they find the money to do so before other teams take the charge.
