With the offseason reaching a slow crawl, the Toronto Maple Leafs are now being linked to a Chicago Blackhawks defenseman who could be a serious star for them.

With the offseason slowing to an absolute crawl, Toronto Maple Leafs fans are hoping for the team to make some kind of move.
Of course, the big target right now is Bryan Rust, who is reportedly available, albeit for a very expensive price.
That said, it appears as though there is a 6'4 defenseman on the market right now who could prove to be intriguing, and he has been linked to the Leafs in the past.
We are talking about 32-year-old Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy, who was only a -2 on one of the worst teams in the league last season.

Connor Murphy to the Toronto Maple Leafs?

According to NHL Trade Rumors, Murphy is one of three Blackhawks players who could be dealt before the start of the season.
Murphy is a right-handed defenceman who has been on trade lists for quite some time now. Murphy's entering the final season of his deal at $4.4 million AAV. The 32-year-old has a 10-team no-trade clause, so he'll have some say in the matter. He's been linked to the Maple Leafs, Oilers, Senators, and Canadiens in the past, so we'll wait and see how things play out next season. Murphy scored 19 points in 68 games last season, and averaged 20:36 ice-time per game, including 2:17 shorthanded.

One has to wonder whether or not this would be worth it for the Leafs, especially when you consider the fact that they already have guys like Brandon Carlo.
Bringing in Murphy could be seen as redundant. Furthermore, it doesn't address any of the team's current needs.
That said, with so little happening around the league, any move would be seen as a positive one right now.
