Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust is available for a trade, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have proven to be one of the many teams interested in the forward.
Bryan Rust is a player that a ton of NHL teams are interested in right now, especially since he is coming off a season in which he had 31 goals.
According to Jose Yohe of The Athletic, the price for Bryan Rust has been made clear, and there is no doubt that the Leafs will have to pay up.
Essentially, Dubas is not interested in draft picks. He wants young players who can be inserted into his lineup today.
I wonder what you can get in return; Kyle Dubas wants NHL ready players more than anything; what he wants are 22 year old guys that can play right now
The Leafs have a 23-year-old who fits this bill perfectly, in Nick Robertson. Robertson has supposedly been made available in trade talks and with an abundance of bottom-sixers, the Leafs would be smart to include him in a trade package.
Dubas was responsible for the Robertson draft, so there is a connection there that makes sense.
Of course, Leafs GM Brad Treliving will have to make a big decision about what is best for the team, in the short term and the long term.
That said, if the Leafs want a shot at going on a deep run this season, they will need a guy like Rust on their team.
