Mitch Marner left the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and in their haste to replace him, the Leafs have brought in four forwards in aggregate.
Marner had a total of 102 points last season, making him one of the best playmakers in the entire league. You can't just flip a switch and replace 27 goals and 75 assists.
According to Hockey Patrol, you just have to look at general manager Brad Treliving's moves over the past 22 days to truly see what we mean.
It all started when the Leafs traded a conditional pick to the Utah Mammoth for Matias Maccelli, a winger who is coming off a down year but has tremendous potential.
From there, the Leafs traded for Nicolas Roy as part of the Mitch Marner deal. This was a great idea, as it allowed the Leafs to get something for a player who was leaving anyway.
In free agency, the Maple Leafs picked up tough guy Michael Pezzetta for a bit of depth. Even if he doesn't score any points, he more than makes up for it in grit.
Then lastly, the Leafs just got Dakota Joshua, another buy-low, sell-high kind of player. He had a bad season due to external factors, and now, he is ready to go on a tear.
Having said all of that, Leafs fans should be excited about what is coming next. The team is in a good spot right now, and more moves are on the horizon.
While some may feel like the offseason has been hopeless, that is simply not the truth.
