Toronto Maple Leafs On the Verge of Losing Two More Former Kyle Dubas Draft Picks

Back in 2020, Kyle Dubas drafted John Fusco and Wyatt Schingoethe, two undersized players who just don't match the Toronto Maple Leafs' current goals.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans understand, good and well, at this point that Kyle Dubas was not a great drafter and that more often than not, he was making some big mistakes.
Both of these players were drafted in the seventh round in 2020, and neither of them was actually signed to their rookie deals.
Wyatt Schingoethe and John Fusco could be gone soon
As of 5 PM today, the Maple Leafs will lose their NHL Draft rights to both Schingoethe and Fusco, unless they sign them to deals, which seems very unlikely.
Earlier this year, the Maple Leafs lost Michael Koster in a similar fashion, as the defenseman signed with the Iowa Wild of the AHL.
Ultimately, this situation just proves that general manager Brad Treliving is operating at a different level from Kyle Dubas. He saw Dubas make big mistakes, and now, he wants to go in a different direction.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that needs to focus on getting bigger and younger. As it stands, they have one of the oldest teams in the NHL.
Unfortunately, the Leafs do not have a ton of draft picks going forward, which is certainly going to put them at a disadvantage when it comes to making trades.
Having said that, Schingoethe and Fusco aren't the answer right now. There is no guarantee they would even pan out at the AHL or ECHL level.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs make any more moves before the start of the season, or just accept their current roster.
