Toronto Maple Leafs Preparing Blockbuster Offer to Mitch Marner's Replacement

After trading Mitch Marner on Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make some massive moves in free agency, and their first offer will be a big one.
Mitch Marner was going to sign with the Las Vegas Golden Knights today, and the Toronto Maple Leafs had a feeling that this was the case.
As a result, they got ahead of the curve and made a deal with the Knights. In exchange for Marner's eighth year on his deal, the Knights gave the Leafs center Nicolas Roy. They also avoided a potential tampering charge in the process.
Now, the Maple Leafs need to add some scoring to their wing, and it appears as though they have found the perfect candidate in free agency.
Toronto Maple Leafs target Nikolaj Ehlers
The player in question is Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets, who just came off a season in which he had 24 goals, 39 assists, and 63 points in 69 games.
Overall, he is a fantastic player, and according to Chris Johnston, the Leafs are very much interested. However, they understand that they will be at a disadvantage in negotiations.

After making trades for Roy and Matias Maccelli, the Leafs don't have a ton of cap space to work with, and Ehlers could be looking at a deal worth $9 million per season.
While the Leafs do want to trade Calle Jarnkrok, Ryan Reaves, and David Kampf, there is no guarantee that they will be able to get these players off the books.
Overall, free agency is set to begin at noon today, and we're sure it is going to be a wild day of negotiations around the league.
Whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs make a big splash, still remains to be seen.
