After days of negotiations, the Toronto Maple Leafs are trading Mitch Marner to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in a move that sends shockwaves across the NHL.
Mitch Marner is officially a member of the Las Vegas Golden Knights after being traded there by the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a sign-and-trade in the truest sense of the term, as Marner also inked a massive contract.
The new deal with the Las Vegas Golden Knights is worth $12 million per season. Furthermore, Marner has signed on for a full eight years, which means the totality of the contract is worth $96 million.
The full terms of the trade have been made official courtesy of Bob McKenzie of TSN. Essentially, this is a one-for-one deal in which the Maple Leafs are receiving center
Nicolas Roy.
Pending trade call being completed. As was previously reported/speculated, assuming it goes through, it will be Nic Roy to TOR and signed Mitch Marner to VGK. The trade is, I believe, one for one.
This is a huge move for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who get a return on a player who was going to be leaving the franchise anyway.
Instead, they now have a third-line center who could do some serious damage for them down the stretch. Ultimately, it is a better option than someone like
Scott Laughton or even
Max Domi.
What is next for the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Overall, this is an incredible day for hockey, and while Leafs fans may be upset, there is no denying this was a huge move.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs can continue to make big moves as the summer goes on.
