Toronto Maple Leafs React to the Death of Beloved Goaltender
This past week, the San Jose Sharks announced the passing of executive Wayne Thomas, who was once a goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs and others.
At the time of his passing, Thomas was the assistant general manager for the San Jose Sharks, a team he had worked for since their inception.
Meanwhile, during the 70s, he was a goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and even the New York Rangers.
Toronto Maple Leafs comment on Wayne Thomas
The Sharks and the Rangers both posted tributes to Thomas on Wednesday, and last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs did the same.
The statement was a nice one and shows the classiness of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
This statement also highlighted the fact that Thomas got to be a major part of Maple Leafs history.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Maple Leafs goaltender, Wayne Thomas.
In 97 games over two seasons, Wayne posted a 37-38-18 record and recorded the win in Darryl Sittler's famous 10-point game on February 7th, 1976. A long-time NHL executive and goalie coach, Wayne passionately worked on and off the ice with NHL goaltenders throughout his career.
Our thoughts are with Wayne's friends and family.
This is very sad news, and it is always sad to see a member of the hockey fraternity pass away.
Our heart goes out to Thomas's family and friends during this difficult time.
