Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nicholas Robertson has made his salary demands clear, although with arbitration on the way, it's clear that a rift is brewing on both sides.
With
Nick Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs set to meet with an arbitrator on Sunday, there have been plenty of discussions about what is going to happen next.
This is going to be fascinating to watch play out, and it's the first bit of action we have had from the Leafs in quite some time.
Toronto Maple Leafs respond to Nick Robertson
Moments ago, the Maple Leafs responded, saying they only want to pay $1.2 million, which makes a lot more sense, and is still a raise on what he made last year.
There is one arbitration case remaining, set for Sunday
Nick Robertson (TOR)
Team: $1.2M
Player: $2.25M
At this stage, there is no telling what the arbitrator is going to say, although we imagine they are going to try to meet both sides somewhere in the middle.
After scoring 15 goals and seven assists last season, it makes sense that the Leafs aren't excited about overpaying Robertson for practically no reason at all.
That said, arbitration can be an ugly process, and the Leafs are understanding that right about now.
Only time will tell whether or not it works out and if the Maple Leafs are able to figure out a way to keep Robertson on the roster.
