Toronto Maple Leafs to Lose Erik Karlsson to Eastern Conference Rival

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson is on the trading block, and while the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested, another team is now favored for the superstar.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the teams named in the rumors, although it appears as though they are out right now.
Where is Erik Karlsson going?
We say that because Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Carolina Hurricanes are the best fit for Karlsson right now.
They are a team that is creating its core for the future, and with
Brent Burns gone, they need a puck-moving defenseman.
Outside of Carolina...it becomes really difficult to...squint and see fits for Erik Karlsson moving forward; Karlsson has made it very clear...he wants to have a chance to win
Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas is not going to make a move until he has a solid return in place, so fans shouldn't get ahead of themselves.
That said, the Hurricanes are a team that is perpetually stuck at the Eastern Conference Finals, and if they want to make the Stanley Cup Finals, they need an X-factor.
Erik Karlsson could be that guy, but again, there are never any guarantees in the National Hockey League.
Only time will tell whether or not this deal gets done, anytime soon.
