Toronto Maple Leafs Trading for Bryan Rust: Rumors Get Louder as Offseason Slows to a Crawl

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust is reportedly being shopped around, and so far, the Toronto Maple Leafs have proven to be among the most likely options.
Overall, he is a 30-goal scorer who can do some real damage, and he plays on the wing, which is exactly what the Toronto Maple Leafs need right now.
The Rust to the Leafs rumors have been strong as of late, but recent reports continue to link the forward to the Original Six powerhouse.
Toronto Maple Leafs would love Bryan Rust
According to Rob Couch, there are three likely contenders for Rust, and the Maple Leafs are the main one.
From there, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres could also be in on Rust, although there is no solid guarantee that this will be the case.
He is more than capable of playing with top talent as he has been doing so beside
Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin for years. Rust would be able to make up for a good amount of the offense lost when
Mitch Marner moved on as the Penguin scored 31 goals and 65 points in 71 games last season. The cap space could also work nicely if someone like
Calle Jarnkrok was moved out.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you cannot help but hope this deal becomes a reality. Unfortunately, the Penguins need assets for a rebuild, and the Leafs don't have that.
It would be extremely difficult for the Leafs to make a move, and Kyle Dubas would likely turn his nose up at Brad Treliving's offers.
However, if a deal did get done, then there would be a lot of happy folks in Toronto.
Whatever the case may be, this is a situation that the Leafs are going to have no choice but to monitor for some time.
